GX vs Range Rover Sport (1 Viewer)

Have you guys noticed how many one eyed defenders are on the road ? I see atleast 1 day with the drl light not working.

Not having personal experience with a RR but researched them as my wife always like the looks of them. I told her that she would never enjoy driving it as it would spend most of it's time in the shop, just like the X6M we owned for a short period of time. She said "Oh" and never asked again.

She LOVES her GX.
they are a blast to drive. one of the best on road driving SUV's i've ever driven imo. i had a 2016 supercharged that ended being extremely reliable. nothing more than routine maint....that's what sucked me in, lol. i had a RR desiel before that...was great till it hit abt 40k miles

When I was considering a Defender vs the GX I spent a lot of time on Defender forums and this seems to be a really common (and expensive) issue.

Been lurking due to not being a GX owner yet but I had to jump in.

IVE LOVED Range Rovers all my life. Beautiful, cunning, and handsome. Dad had a brand new ‘99 back in the day when I was a kid and my cousin had a brand new ‘98 (with the brush guards all around, inspiring my dad to get his). Amazing trucks… however, a proper piece of sh!t they were.

Dad went on to get an ‘03 which was to me the end all of design when it came out but it was also a proper piece of sh!t.

Cousin went through an ‘03, an ‘09, and then landed at the end on TWO diesel Range Rovers. One for him and his wife. He got rid of them and drove around in his fleet of merc vans for awhile because why not, they were fleet trucks his company owned and ultimately being the boss he could.

Then one day I went to visit him and he picked me up from the airport in an HRV. 🤣

I asked him where his RR was and he said he had it in the shop ‘every other damn months because of diesel fuel issues” and was thrilled to buy the Honda. He was ecstatic how easy it was to get around the city (NY) and not worry about people bumping into his car when parked and “all the sh!t I can fit in this thing while getting 30mpg”

Funny story. I’d still buy one if I had the money not to care but in my adult years I think I’d feel too pretentious driving a RR and something that is ultimately unreliable as I like to drive my cars a along time. Also the fact that Range Rovers are basically unreachable for me these days. I remember when they were $60k out the door.

Have you seen the pricing of the RR Sport. It starts at $83K and ranges to $180K for the base trims. That just barely overlaps with the GX. You can get up to $220 or higher. A lot of GX drivers are coming from Toyota's, Tundra's, Tacoma's,4Runners etc...That's just a different market to me.

I was bored over the weekend so I took a drive to the LR dealership to check out a brand new V8 110 Defender. When the sales woman pulled up the car for the test drive, we tested some of the functions and the headlights wouldn’t turn on. Had to turn the car off and back on then the headlights would work. She tried to play it off like it wasn’t an issue. The ride was incredibly comfortable but it was a big nope from the beginning because of the headlights.

On a related note, this Octa they had on the lot was gorgeous. Not the one I drove.
