Metallic Rattle/Crackling In B-Pillar? (1 Viewer)

We finally have a fix. After 3 separate trips to Newport Lexus, 3 visits to Mission Viejo Lexus and miles of drive time with the shop foreman, they found the rattle and crackling sound in the drivers side door. The door panels on both the front and rear driver side were the culprits. They added felt tape behind each panel to stop them from rubbing on the metal of the door and the sounds are gone. No more B-pillar rattle or loose metal sounds and I couldn't be happier.
My rattle is definitely coming from somewhere in the passenger rear area. Haven’t quite pinpointed it yet but def metal on metal

Could only post a short video but this captures it. Constant at 5-50 mph.

This is the exact same noise I am experiencing with mine. I’ve become so fed up with my local dealer, I took it to a upholstery shop and asked them to drop the headliner and the c pillar covers so I could pinpoint it and rectify it.

Considering doing a full insulation application on roof and doors in hopes of fixing the issue because, at this point, Lexus et al is shitting the bed on our issues.

It’s an unfortunate turn of events for Toyota/Lexus. I’ve exclusively driven this brand since 1999 and have owned one of most models and ten Land Cruisers in those years. I can say with 100% certainty that I’ve never been this disappointed by their commitment to their customers as I am now.

If they would just fix the Mark Levinson issue then we could use that to drown out the noises. Kill 3 TSBs with one stone..

Here’s a picture the Service Director just sent me of the problematic area:

Anybody have this issue intermittently or is it constant?
Mine is a consistent tapping sometimes for 10-15 minutes, before it stops from, what I assume is the temperature changing enough on the interior or exterior, for it to mesh properly.

They finally found the culprit of the ticking noise. I had to get the service manager involved, and he was able to dive deeper with a technician and finally replicate the noise from the B-pillar. Annoying part about this was that I called Lexus to open a case and they told me to kick rocks; they can't do anything about it. I had to push the service manager to get something going. They, at the dealership, internally opened something with corporate/Japan (their explanation was that someone from Japan would advise on how to fix it). Finally got the call earlier this week and they found the spot welds in the b pillar was not at spec. So, this whole week, it has been at the body shop getting the spot welds re-welded. I will post technician notes and service notes when I get the car back.

I must say this whole process has been annoying because of the previous rudeness and gaslighting of the service advisors saying they cannot hear anything. But, after over a year later I think this issue can be resolved. Toyota has a serious QC issue with their spot welds, just based on things in here with the C pillar, B pillar, Roof, etc and the LC forums. Other models like Camry and corolla have had spot weld issues as as well. They need to TSB this shit or recall it.

I’ve heard internally Lexus aware of this issue and coming up with a broader solution. Right now it’s dependent on if dealer can replicate & fix (body shop)

They fixed ours after a month in the shop. They added sound deadening and the problem is solved. Have to say my experience with Lexus care was awful. Called and spoke to a lady who I believe was in India. Got off the phone feeling that Lexus could care less. Just took it in to have the backup camera and transmission shift issue addressed with both now fixed. Frustrating as I came from an Alfa Romeo that everyone mocks for crappy reliability and my wife drove hers for 4 yrs and 80k miles with zero issues. Just waiting to hear if our late year 24 build GX will be caught up in the engine swap fiasco. Needless to say and I know this will be unpopular but thus far unimpressed with our first Lexus experience. Best of luck to everyone. Cheers

Was your c-pillar rattle intermittent or constant?

Was your c-pillar rattle intermittent or constant?
Depended on the road surface. On newly paved highways you didn't hear it. The moment you were on rougher roads it rattled constantly. I took the information from this forum to the dealership and showed them exactly where the issue was coming from. They looked at it for a while then sent it to a body shop who said the weld was intact and not the issue. Dealer ended up working with Lexus engineering who told them to add insulation. Never saw what their final fix looked like as we received it all buttoned up. Fortunately as I mentioned earlier the issue has been solved for over 6 months. Cheers

Although mine was intermittent Lexus still performed a “field fix”. Confirmed bad weld in passenger side C-pillar area
