Overtrail Replacement Tires

i just got the 34" E rated Toyos and they also had issues with balancing. Needed road force balance to get the car to stop vibrating at 70+ mph and got one tire replaced under warranty because the road force machine said it's excessively unbalanced.
Ride's a bit loud and firmer, but so far as expected for E rated. Will be shopping for 35" whenever these wear out. Hopefully there'll be a bunch of good options by then.
Dang, I'm sorry to hear that. Road forcing is a good practice on most any off-road tire but Toyos being so out of round that they require replacement is really rare in my experience. Hopefully they took good care of you and all is good now! Vibrations are absolutely infuriating lol

I have decided to go with the Pirelli Scorpion XTM AT 275/70 18 on my OT. I have 12k and the stock tires are down to 4/32 so it’s almost time before winter. Here is my question… looking for those with experience with this tire (ideally) or general opinions… Pirelli makes them in load range E and SL Elect. (Built for electric vehicles.) Looks like I save 2 lbs/wheel with the SL Elect, but otherwise the other specs are the same .(tread depth etc)
Which do I purchase?

My use is this:
I tow >= 5000lbs around 8-10 times per year.
Moderate off-road occasionally (a couple times a year) .
The rest is mild off-road and paved roads.

Impressive review, hadn't considered but will now. Would love to hear from current users1 Anyone?

Any thoughts on load range E vs SL elect in these tires with this kind of use?

I’ve also read numerous reviews and ‘tests’ of this new Pirelli Scorpion. They basically all seem to state, acknowledge that you give up a bit of deep mud traction with the SL Elect version in return for some improved mpg. So if bad mud is really not on your menu then the Elect version might be better. 😊
Otherwise the noise reported are very close, and the ride feel is supposedly very close too. As far as mileage warranty or longevity I don’t recall that. And I don’t recall weight differences, or tread depth, either. But I assume the Elect version is lighter.

In my case I’m looking at - for the future - the 295/70/18 load E and lighter wheel combination to reduce rotational weight and gain a bit more clearance. I’ll figure out offset and any wheel well trimming later.

EDIT: I meant to add that SL Elect version is likely ‘heavy duty’ and safe enough for the towing you mention, since this tire version is meant for heavier electric vehicles (trucks, SUVs) anyway.

Thanks. I have seen the reports on mud as well. That doesn't bother me much.
The SL Elect is 2 pounds lighter vs E. . 50 vs 52 pounds. I guess the two things that I am wondering about is; should I just go with E considering how I use the GX (outlined above) or is SL Elect ok, which you answered, Thanks. And not being a tire expert/engineer, I struggle to understand how less rolling resistance (Elect) doesn't translate into less overall grip.....

Good question, and same here.

But generally we know that design factors such as siping, exact compounds used, and even the belts/plys used can vary when targeted towards a heavier electric vehicle. And the heavier electric vehicle is providing more downforce to the contact patches - everything being equal (which it isn’t..). But the extra weight is a bit harder to slow down, and to control while cornering too.
A lot of dynamics going on..

Is the SL version also 3PMSF rated?
Hard to know for sure how the SL elect version will behave on our GX vs the heavier (and longer wheelbase) Rivians provided by Pirelli to the journalists.

I think a few forum members are now using the Toyo AT3 elect version; maybe ping them?

Yes. Both are 3pk snow rated. The only specs I could find that were different was weight. The test I posted was only E load tires, but the dynamics were excellent. However, If I can pick up some MPG with little downside... I'm in with the ELECT. The only negative I have seen posted elsewhere was with ELECT and problems with hydroplaning, but that was one guy....

Correct! 285/70R18 will be a tight squeeze in the spare tire well but can likely work with, a little deflating like you said.

IMO:
1st place - Toyo A/T III
2nd place - Nitto Terra grappler G3
3rd place - Falken Wildpeak A/T4W

Nothing wrong with any of the 3 but the Toyos consistently require the least weight to balance and are the closest to perfectly round of any A/T tire I've seen. The Nittos are very close in balance and runout but I prefer the tread design of the Toyos. The Falkens, a bit more aggressive than the Nittos but with the price being as close to the Toyos are they are, the Toyo wins in my mind every time.
Thank you for all your great advice. Regrets for asking again even though your are clear above. Replacing the OEM's on my OT (Toyo Open Country A/T) and sticking with 265/70's and live in Dallas. For some reason, purely emotional, the Nitto sidewall's look better to me. We will be highway/city for 85% of the time and 15% off road (not heavy). Will the Nitto's get better mileage since tread design may be not as aggressive? Is it a tie, or as a subject matter expert you would definitely purchase the TOYO's for your vehicle? Plus.....any advice on a replacement rock sliders/running boards? The OEM's do not provide a good step for spouse, not like our prior JK rock sliders. Look at the Westcott's. Wish you were closer that Knoxville. Thanks.

No worries at all!

If you prefer the Nitto sidewall, I would buy the Nittos with confidence. Both are in the very top of their class and the Nitto might be slightly quieter on the road. I would expect mileage to be similar as long as you're comparing the same load range. Nitto is owned by Toyo so their quality is also exceptional! The Nittos also have a dual sidewall so you can flip the tire around for whichever look you prefer to be outwards--kind of a cool feature.

I usually recommend the CBI Overland Rock Sliders although if you need it more for a step than a slider, they also make the CBI Side Steps. I hope this helps!

I recently installed the Pirelli Scorpion XTM AT 275/70/18 SL's.
'24 OT+ with Factory Tacoma TRD Pro +24 offset wheels.

I went with the SL's since I do not tow much and did not want a LT tire since I spend
lots of hours on the highways everyday.

So far, they have been great. Balanced well and ride as expected for AT tires. Make a little noise but
what truck tire doesn't. Much quieter than my factory Toyo's with 31,000 miles.
They were loud and in terrible condition. Missing chunks from some trail adventures in the Rockies.

Can't comment on how they tow, handle snow, mud or off road - yet.

Look great and handle wet roads well.

I’ve been looking for feedback on these before I buy. I assume they are SL Elect. How is the ride compared to the Toyos?

Yes, SL Elec.

It’s hard to say how they ride compare to the Toyos since it’s been a long time since my Toyos were new.

I can say they are definitely AT truck tires, but I do not dislike them at all.

When my factory tires were new, I was busy changing pressures and rebalancing them to get the truck to ride better.

The Perelli‘s I set at 35 psi and I found them to be just fine.

I recently replaced my stock tires with the Toyo AT III EV 275/70/18 on Vossen Wheels and I like how they have performed on and off road. For offroad, they have performed well in desert terrain like Toroweep and Anza Borrego and forests like Las Padres National Forest, and Monache Meadows in the eastern Sierras.

Thanks. I decided on the Pirelli's size 275/70/18 based on what I have read and the review I posted earlier on this thread. I'm still undecided on the SL Elect vs the E-load based on my use case.
