Overtrail Replacement Tires (1 Viewer)

So much info in the forum so looking for confirmation on what I’ve read. I’m at 21k in stock tires and it’s time to replace them. ‘24 OT no lift/mods. Sounds like the largest tire that would fit are 285/70 18s. It should fit the spare tire well, barely, might need to deflate a little. Otherwise, 275/70 18s will for sure fit and are a slight upgrade over OEM. Correct?
Now to pick the tire itself- Nittto TG G3, Toyo AT3, wild peak AT4, or a new one I haven’t seen anyone mention Continental Terraincontact a/t. I don’t do any winter driving down here in GA and only off roading is the hunting trail in/out (minimal). 90% is country road driving.
Correct! 285/70R18 will be a tight squeeze in the spare tire well but can likely work with, a little deflating like you said.

IMO:
1st place - Toyo A/T III
2nd place - Nitto Terra grappler G3
3rd place - Falken Wildpeak A/T4W

Nothing wrong with any of the 3 but the Toyos consistently require the least weight to balance and are the closest to perfectly round of any A/T tire I've seen. The Nittos are very close in balance and runout but I prefer the tread design of the Toyos. The Falkens, a bit more aggressive than the Nittos but with the price being as close to the Toyos are they are, the Toyo wins in my mind every time.

You tha man.
Where would you rank KO3s in that list? I can get KO3s at Costco which is closest to me or drive to a discount tire for everything else. Costco’s final price is a good bit cheaper so that’s including my decision

I have KO3s that surprisingly balanced well ... hopefully they stay round

275/70/R18 E Load

They are noticeably more stiff in the sidewall ...I run them 35psi Cold

KO3's:
  • Look amazing
  • Last seemingly forever
  • Absorb bumps surprisingly well
  • Don't chunk in extreme terrain
  • Are VERY hard to balance and often come out of round

That being said, Costco customer service is second to none. If you get a bad tire or two, they'll take care of you. Discount tire detunes their road force balancers to accept 35lbs of runout regardless of the tire so the KO3's win this round for me!

I'm considering the Toyo AT III in the EV spec size 275-70-18 when my OEMs wear out. What are your thoughts on using the EV spec tire on the GX550?

I haven't heard any bad reports about the EV tire yet, but I don't know that you'd be ahead vs the P metric Toyo as it does have less tread depth so you'd be paying a good bit of money still for a tire that will last a bit less time than the regular version. Whether that offsets the fuel savings, I'm not sure. Lightness is definitely a plus but if it were me, I think I would just go for the P metric regular Toyo.

At first I thought it was just marketing blah blah, but the ev tire spec is interesting. E rated, 3 lbs lighter than the regular LT… if tread depth is a concern maybe stick to regular LTAT3, but sounds like a nice blend of features. Price is a bit hefty but everywhere I read people seem to love them…

I’d consider them for possibly a slightly nimbler more road compliant tire, but I wouldn’t do it strictly for the gas savings. Would 15lbs including spare save you that much in gas over the lifetime? That would be near impossible to verify. In the end I’d probably just stick to regular LTs for my use case, I don’t value minute improvements in road comfort as much.

***I actually double checked tread depth on the e rated, it’s the same as the ev tire so I’m not sure what Matthew@LC250Mods is referencing, he might be seeing something I’m not.
