Agree Snooperstyle.. That did kinda occur to me as a bit of a ’positive’. Other hand it’s a larger item to get seriously caught up with incorrect vehicle placement.
While I’m not looking to go big any time soon, I’ve been contemplating the entire spare tire situation. So…I may end up wanting to add a new rear bumper, tire mount swing before I add any other expensive mods.

Thanks for your insight, comments! Good luck on your new incoming ‘rig’! If I find time..I might discover some pics of my German-spec 1986 M5 I had in Europe. Light weight, a really fast flyer!

Well, I finally got er done, new 275/70/18s on the GX. I went with the Firestone Destination XTs because they look clean and sharp from the side, they have a deep and pretty aggressive tread, they are very light for an E rated tire, and people said they were quiet. I can confirm, they are extremely smooth and quiet, and depth measures right at 16/32s. I have zero noticeable power or accelerating loss. I appreciate all the input and photos others shared here while I was trying to figure this out.

I also removed the air dams that were in front of the tires and I think I like it better without them. It was three 10mm screws and one clip on each side. Now I can see the cool new tires better from the front. I also took the more central air dams and bent them back a bit by hand. They just blend in with the skid plate and aren't really very obvious anymore.
