My GX warns me to "Sit Up and Pay Attention”

Did your GX tell you to Sit Up and Pay more attention?

  • Sit up

  • Pay more attention (driver inattention detected)

  • I heeded the warning and corrected my seating position

  • I disabled the driver warning alerts

  • Look forward

I don't know exactly what this "feature" is or does, since the guy who did the tech walkthrough at delivery immediately asked me if I wanted it disabled and he turned it off.
Turning it off, doesn't eliminate the alert. I drive with my arm on the top side of the steering wheel so I basically had this alert every day. Feels like a breath of fresh air now.

The drivers monitor is the worst thing about the GX IMO. I have tried vinyl , electrical tape to cover the camera and in 30 minutes the drivers inattention pop-up comes on, even with drivers monitor turned off. The "technology expert" at my dealer said there isn't a way to disable pop-ups. Thankfully I have the HUD and just stopped looking at the cluster.

I'm still puzzled by why I never see this. Yesterday while on the highway I intentionally blocked the sensor with my hand and after a while got a brief, unobtrusive message saying something like "driver alert not available". I've tried to replicate it several times and nothing happens. Whatever the tech specialist at the dealer did at delivery seems to have pretty much killed it.

Try the Carista OBD2 scanner.
I tweaked all the warnings etc that were bugging me and little things like how many blinks on a lane change from 3-6, etc.
Wow - so glad you posted this. I am looking at Amazon, there are a few different, I think, models - one is $79, one is $38, etc... can you post the specific model Carista you used?

Thanks,

I had Carista, turned off all alerts (through Carista and the vehicle) and recently had a custom vinyl over the camera over the steering wheel.

The tape and coding does a good job to keep the audio alerts from coming on if you hold on to the steering wheel or are actually looking away.

The only remaining issue, that I can’t seem to defeat, is if you use cruise control for a longer period of time, usually over a 20 min drive. For me, the alert on the dash would continually pop up after being reset, again with no audio alert and would only disappear after I got to my destination and turned off the car.

For those who don’t use cruise control, taping over the camera (along with the correct vehicle settings) seems to work for daily driving to eliminate the audio and visual alerts

Can you tell me what I need to turn off to make that stop? Mine hates it when I wear sunglasses. It never stops beeping at me and it's making me crazy!

I found that mine gave me that warning when my head was against the headrest. It seemed like the bottom edge of my sunglasses blocked the view of the camera. Also, when I rest my hand on top of the steering wheel, since the window ledge on the door sucks for propping up your arm. Lol

I disabled that function immediately.

Mine hadn't nagged me until I was driving this weekend on some forest service roads. In places, there were a bunch of people walking on the sides of the roads and kids playing. Every time I looked to the side a bit long to keep track of a kid or in more clear sections to look over at the river, I got nagged. Even sub 10mph, which was a bit annoying.

That cross traffic alert though, THAT thing is hyper sensitive.

Is it really that bad when your car alerts you to potential danger? For me, it's like having an extra pair of eyes on the road. With all the clowns out there driving like you know what, I don't mind having an occasional alert. We all know how easy it is to get distracted...it's just a call back to reality that things can go really wrong in a NY minute.

Yes, bought a subscription.

I’ve gone back in to make adjustments now and then so it’s not expensive for the flexibility I have.

Does anyone know what effect this has on the warranty? Can the dealer try to use this against you in any way? I want to get it but I’m not going to risk it if there are any potential issues getting coverage. Thanks.

Your GX is female?
Je suis Andre, just ordered our new GX550. YES, All cars are pre-nouned Female. And you don't know that? Sacre Bleu. I sure wish My Corvette and V8-Mercedes-550 could be called MACHO = HE, at least the WAY I always drive. Yes, the SUV is for the Female-Doctor-Wife-Ewa. Now, anybody want to talk to me, ex-Michelin-employed-Engineer for V, W or Z Speed-Rated Run-Flat-Tires?

My GX550 nags me too much.
GX: "OOH! Watch out for that car coming from the left! - BEEP! BEEP!"
Me: "I saw it 10 seconds ago. Stop nagging"
GX: "OH! Look out! Another car is coming behind it now! - BEEP! BEEP! BEEP!"
Me: "Whoa, big surprise. Two cars on a busy road. Please stop doing this."
Lmao , I turned that option off but it still nags me.
