Overtrail AVS Compatible Suspension Systems (1 Viewer)

Whether in Park or Drive, or rotating the Drive Selector Control, I’ve never had any warning lights, flashing codes or anything on the driver or center screens. Have the MT64 upgrade since 7/29. I routinely still use the drive modes Eco, Normal, Sport+ for whatever power I need.
I’ve also played around in 4Lo, MTS modes, lockers; nothing.

I haven’t recently checked my Carrista OBD, but previously it did show the 4 codes, one for each corner:

They each read basically the same:

I did reset, clear all 4..but haven’t checked to see if they reappeared. I just made the assumption they always will.
Either I ‘got lucky’ (doubtful), or my Slee Offroad installer knew what to do, or the ARB response above is not entirely detailed enough to be correct. Not sure which.

More generally..there are now a reasonable number of us who have removed all 4 of the AVS Tokico shocks and installed whatever upgrade. I don’t recall anyone having warning codes flashing (either a direct AVS warning, or warnings such as VSC etc that likely utilize AVS inputs). But maybe I’m wrong.
And I also don’t recall anyone stating any ill effects while driving.

As one of you just mentioned, I too grew increasingly dissatisfied with the AVS suspension. Along with all my other reasons to dump it, I made it happen. I’m super happy I did. I’m constantly looking for excuses to go somewhere, anywhere because it rides, handles, steers and tows so much better now.
Yes Bill, I’m still a kid in a candy store! 👍
Just to echo DJ's comments, I also have not had any codes show up after replacing the AVS shocks. And like DJ, I had my shocks replaced by Slee in Golden, CO so I'm sure whatever they did for DJ they did for me.

I too had a hard time perceiving much difference with the AVS shocks across the various drive modes.

I opted for the adjustable ADS shocks and love them. At first they seemed a bit stiff on softest setting but now they are very supple. I have found myself purposefully driving over rougher pavement just to enjoy how they feel on the softest setting. Then by adjusting them up to from the softest setting, I found I get a much more sporty response than I ever got with the original AVS system. I pull a 5000 lb off-road camper trailer so I do dial up the shocks when towing which eliminated sway I had before.

Summing up, I don't regret tossing those AVS shocks as the ADS units vastly improved the driving experience. BTW, I had experienced some of the infamous vibration before but that is gone now.

In time I believe there will be a kit developed to address this. In the BMW world, some aftermarket dampers utilize the factory EDC and some have a module that bypasses it. Both ways are acceptable but integrating with the factory settings is pretty slick. Hopefully they make it happen!

FWIW, in doing some research and calling around to plan a kit for an Overtrail+ I hope to have in the next month or two, I called ICON today 3/2/26.

ICON: They flat out said "We aren't making anything for the Overtrail+ models at all and if you replace those shocks, your dash will light up like a Christmas tree"... that was discouraging...

I then called 88Rotors in California.

88Rotors: They said they've done a number of King's kits on the Overtrail+ models already and reported no warning lights or problems of any kind. They said they simply coil up the wiring that would go to the shocks and store that wiring up out of the way incase you ever wanted to go back to Stock.

On another note, I stopped at a local truck shop that does these kinds of builds here in Tulsa. They haven't done any GX's yet that they could recall, but they did a 2020 TRD Pro 4runner for me about 5 years ago with a full ICON kit and it was great. The shop manager told me they've had a lot of bad/faulty Fox Shocks lately and he's steering people away from them to Kings or Icon. He said he had one truck where they went through 3 sets of Fox Shocks before they got a set that worked...

The lead tech at my dealership confirmed that AVS error codes/faults/failures do not display on the dash. I had a faulty AVS sensor on one shock and it was only found using Techstream
