VF Tuner ECU/TCU Tuning for the GX550 (1 Viewer)

Has anyone in Australia managed to plug this in via their dash?

The instructions on the manual are for US vehicles and doesn't work for Aussie GX's.

Got a quote from an Autoelectrician today to remove the dash... got quoted in the thousands to remove the dash to had the CAN connect installed :/

@VF Tuner Also interested in hearing about any updates. I just took delivery of my new GX and very much interested in one of these once I'm past break in.

it's been over a month since the last update here from them on here. They have promised a lot for the GX platform (performance parts, turbos, Software enhancements, iphone tuning), and I hope to be wrong, but it appears that they have too many irons in the fire and are spreading themselves too thin to maintain the kind of support they had when they first appeared on the forums.

the upgraded turbo kit was supposed to be released late January to Feb. Wonder where that is in production. I was interested in seeing that.

emailed their support and nothing new

The latest update is that we still need a bit more time to refine it. We would like to deliver a refined new version of the tune, so it's taking more time to test.

Good Evening,

we have been (silently) working on several updates actually. They are all wrapping up but it has been an intense development process.
I had some personal family matters get in the way (my father was diagnosed with stage4 cancer) and had to take a little time away.

First, the turbochargers. The manufacturer had to delay them slightly, but we are expecting them within a few weeks now as they gave a hard limit date on shipping. They use OEM parts that Toyota uses and unfortunately due to tons of engines breaking on the Tundras they had to do OEM orders first. (these upgraded turbos are made by toyota japan)

Software updates -
we have discovered a potential ?bug? in Toyotas code (possibly bug, or feature?) that creates a total limp-mode scenario if temperatures are too low and load targets are too high, making you get zero boost. We are working on a big patch for load control but it's quite complicated.
We are also working on a bootloader that will enable faster flashing, ECU Locking, and eventually custom tuning can be done via OBD, without the CAN connect at all.

app development is still actively being worked on.

Everything is actively being worked on but please be aware these ECUs are quite complex with many many layers. It's not something that can just be "quick fix" in a day/week.

We do thank everyone for their patience as this stuff continues to roll out.

Sorry to hear about your dad. Thoughts and prayers.

Looking forward to hearing about the updates.

Hi , i was planning to go to the snow in the next few weeks... should i avoid the cold temps? Can you elaborate on the Limp Mode issue your data is showing you?

We haven't seen this issue happen on the GX actually, so far only the Tundra, but it may be in there (no reports so far)

Fascinating - that sounds a lot like a low temp protection algorithm, similar to what you see on the GR Corolla & Yaris. I've never been brave enough to try to get into boost before my engine is warmed up, so I don't know if my vehicle will even try to close the wastegate before it reaches a certain coolant / oil temp.

I'm very sorry to hear about your father and I hope you're able to take the time you need to support yourself and your family. Well wishes to you & your family.

I'm finally getting ready to setup my tune. I just emailed my serial number in. I was reading through all the instructions and still have some questions:

1. Do we use the factory OBD2 only to read the ECU ID or will the CAN connector be used for everything?
2. Before flashing, how can I save my factory tune file in case I want to revert? Do I have to read ECU and save it somehow?
3. If the flash option window comes up, do we press OK or Cancel? The screenshot does not show a GX specific option.

Also, do we have the OEM transmission update integrated yet? I know you were looking to have someone send in that file to you.

I got everything installed and decided to make a video on the install process. The hardest part is getting the CAN connect cable plugged in. Software portion isn't bad, just need to take your time.

First Impressions are amazing. I can't wait to see how it does after a few hundred miles. The truck feels much lighter and moves quicker with less pedal effort. Very satisfied so far!

Did the tune address any transmission issues with shifting?
I’m still waiting for confirmation from VF Tuner if that has been addressed with the factory recalibration incorporated. It feels much better but still does it from time to time, not as rough as before.
@L-GX550-P, congrats on the new born!
And thank you for the vid
Thank you!
