VF Tuner ECU/TCU Tuning for the GX550 (2 Viewers)

I got everything installed and decided to make a video on the install process. The hardest part is getting the CAN connect cable plugged in. Software portion isn't bad, just need to take your time.

First Impressions are amazing. I can't wait to see how it does after a few hundred miles. The truck feels much lighter and moves quicker with less pedal effort. Very satisfied so far!

Nice, appreciate the time top record as I definitely want to get one of these. Wish we had 93 around me locally enough I could go that route, but will have to do 91 when it's time. Hopefully still plenty worth it.

I’m still waiting for confirmation from VF Tuner if that has been addressed with the factory recalibration incorporated. It feels much better but still does it from time to time, not as rough as before.

Does it seem to still want to gear hunt and be indecisive at low speeds? How is the throttle lag?

It does not hunt like before. You can feel it downshift early on its own and stay in gears a bit longer. The first time you’re in traffic you will definitely notice the improvement.

The hard downshift is still there from time to time. If we have to choose between Lexus update and the VF TCU update, it’s a clear choice just for the lag reduction.

Without reading through everything, is the update for the transmission? That's the one thing holding me back a bit right now. My '26 OT shifts great and while I do occasionally feel the 2-1 downshift, it's never what I would call rough or hard. I'd hate to do the tune to a prior trans version and mess that up for myself. The only thing I'd really probably like tranmission related is for better throttle response and removing any lowered limits for boost in lower gears.

You kinda want the engine to boost into load … can’t run full boost in low RPMs as I believe it would create more stress

I'm very interested to see some reviews on these kits once they're being used. I wish there was something a bit more in-between in terms of cost and power though. Would love to get right around 500hp with maybe just something like upgraded intakes/charge pipe/intercooler + tune or something. No idea if that's even possible though.

Keep getting the answer of we were back ordered and now trying to catch up on shipments but finding it hard to believe their could be THAT many orders that it’s taking this long to catch up. About ready to call BS and do a chargeback with the credit card company.

Yeah I was reading through one of the Tundra forums specifically about this hardware/tune kit and it was mentioned that while the end result was typically solid with their stuff, it was basically to be expected for there to be lots of delays and bad communication. I haven't pulled the trigger yet with wanting to get at least a couple thousand miles on my OT before doing anything performance wise and this is making me think about going with Burger or JB4 even though I don't think the performance would be quite as good.

yeah, the original tune and support was great when it was first released for the GX. Nothing wrong with the tune as it stands, just a bit frustrating an update has been pending for several months now with no followup or feedback. I understand that some personal issues transpired, but it appears that they are still constantly developing for other cars. I feel it's just a case of too many irons in the fire and there are other projects that get more of the attention.

Had they never mentioned the update was in the works or almost "ready"several months ago, I would have been fine, but here we are....
