GX550 Overtrail Vibration (1 Viewer)

Drove a brand new 2025 OT+ today. Compared to my 2024 OT there was zero difference in ride quality that I could discern. Overall pretty smooth outside of the small road imperfection stuff. Salesman even said “I don’t know why they sent us a Overtrail+. People test drive it and don’t like the ride because of the off-road tires”

I checked my washboard for AVS error codes and all was clean.
AVS error codes are only visible using Techstream or some similar scan tool. No error codes/lights will display on the dash for an AVS error.

Also, I believe when there is a fault code and/or the fuse is pulled, the AVS shocks default to their stiffest setting. Stiff beyond what is selectable using the mode selector dial.

That’s why the ‘24 OT+ with a faulty AVS sensor rode like it had wooden shocks. Every ripple in the road was transmitted into the cabin

On a different thread I recently wrote that I pulled the fuse for AVS (AVS-IGR) located in the passenger-side fusebox. There were no error messages and I thought the ride felt smoother. There was no "wooden shocks" sensation AFAICT. I currently have it out and am evaluating the ride quality for some future travels.

My 25 Ot drives harsh on sport plus but the ride is smooth ( not raptor level smooth ) on the hwy . My wife is sensitive about the ride and has always complained in my jeeps and broncos but she seems to find the ride very compliant here. If the vibration issue on some of the trucks are true I’m happy to lend my truck to a fellow owner for back to back comparison . It should be easy to diagnose from there

Suspension wise, I can’t a difference between the Modes.

OT+

If I don’t remember which setting I am in, I can’t tell them apart other than the fake noise and gearing changes.

All modes ride equally poor on the highway.

When I scanned the AVS module it was using a pro level scanner - can’t remember which brand, not mine.

No codes.

My 10,000 mile checkup is soon. I’m going to see if there’s anyway they can test to see if the AVS suspension actually works.

Hello everyone, I bought a Lexus GX550 Luxury Plus. There's a noticeable vibration after 110 km/h. I've currently ordered an Icon suspension kit and will be changing it to see how that turns out. I've read through the whole forum and understand that it's most likely due to the AVS. It's impossible to drive like this, and the wheels are balanced correctly. Sorry for my English

I do not know your situation - but if it were my vehicle I would have the dealer address the vibration before doing any modifications. Once you change from stock many of the dealers will not adjust as they assume the issues was from the mods.

Please make sure your tires are the correct psi (mine were set to 41 by dealer)and have them road force balance the tires to see if they’re out of spec (all it takes is 1). I had the vibration issue and it was one tire way out of spec. Lexus replaced all 4 gratis and my GX (Overtrail) is smooth as butter now.

Thanks to this forum, I had some super laser wheel balancing done today. My car is on studded 22inch tires. My Lexus drives and drives like a Lexus should. Regular wheel balancing didn't help at all. I'm super, super happy! But my Icon suspension is already on its way, and I'm going to install it anyway.

Ok. Here’s the deal. I have a 2024 OT+ for almost 1 1/2 years now. I test drove all 3 models. The luxury (+) ride is just too stiff and if that were the only model available I would have not bought the GX 550 at all. The ride on the premium , prem +, OT and OT+ are decent. Remember you are still buying a body on frame! Given that they are excellent rides in that category. My OT+ rides very smooth on the highway and is a little stiff on poorly maintained city streets. However it handles well in all kinds of weather conditions. We’ve had “atmospheric river” storms in southern CA the last 3 days and it drove like a gem. I was evacuated during the wildfires earlier this year and comfortably slept 2 nights in my car. The 115 v in the back also came in handy. I love this car/truck. It’s not going to drive like a unibody but for my overall use it fits perfectly. It’s rugged and yet smooth enough for long trips. I am super happy. Before you buy the car know what you’re buying it for. Then you won’t be disappointed! I tell my wife that this is my APOCALYPSE CAR! By the way I drive in comfort mode and it still handles just fine.

Have to agree with you apocalypse car description; many cars will get you to the ends of the earth - this one will do that and more importantly get you home!

Totally agree with your overall point. However, this thread was started because of an issue unrelated to harsh ride, body-on-frame construction or rough roads. The issue that some of us are having is a vibration at highway speeds that feels like very poorly balanced tires but can’t be addressed regardless of the number of times we balance the tires, the type of tire, or the inflation PSI. I love my Overtrail. It has taken us and our camper to places I can’t believe we could reach, and mine is still totally stock. I love passing jeeps on 38s as I pull my camper up a Colorado mountain pass with a stock GX. But it vibrates on the highway.

I bought OT wheels and tires which had previously been unmounted and balanced via a normal balancing machine. I did have occasional vibration at highway speeds, especially when I took turns on the highway or if I exceeded 80mph. It got a little better after 1000 miles, but was still noticeable.

I then had TPMS sensors installed at my local Toyota dealer, who also Road Force balanced them - I had to specify "Road Force Balance" specifically, for some reason, even though they did not charge me extra.

The vibration significantly lessened afterwards. It still minorly vibrates in turns on the highway, but so subtly now that I don't notice it unless I'm actively paying attention to it. I can also drive above 90mph with no vibrations at all (though I really don't ever do that). I inflate my tires to 35psi cold from my ~35F garage, so they expand to ~39PSI on the highway; it's probably about 1psi overfilled, but that doesn't bother me much.
