Transmission Clunk TSB L-SB-0042-25 (4 Viewers)

I suspect it's highly dependent on the dealership.

It's possible some dealers don't even have a grease gun to do this because it's such a rare and overlooked ask - especially on newer cars that almost never have greaseable anything.

I guarantee almost every independent local shop can do this for you, though.

do you think the stealership would do this for us if requested? my 5k is coming up and i'd like them to perform it
Yes, My service department (Longo) greased both the slip joint and U-joints at my request during recent 15K service. They did charge me $230 for this addition.

I don’t have access to a lift and wanted it done before I hit the trails with my son on an upcoming trip to Tahoe.

I intend to grease slip joint/U-joints myself in the future by moving truck forward/backwards a bit at a time to get access.

I also had the transmission reflash done at same 15K service. I can attest to my driveline is much less clunky. I cannot tell if greasing or the TSB provided the most benefit. Regardless, much improved.

Went in for my 5K service just hours ago. Had them do transmission TSB and grease the U joint and Slip joint. Gotta say, night and day driving it back. Will continue to monitor if anything changes though.
As somebody who has driven the car in basically every combination - without lube / calibration, with lube / without calibration, with calibration / low lube, and with calibration / with lube - the lubed driveshaft is almost certainly the big differentiator.

Arguably, my car thumps into second / first just as frequently as before the calibration (and it still does it now), but the lubed driveshaft really calms it down & turns it into a whole different luxurious car. It even helps the delayed throttle response a little when rolling through stops. I plan to re-lube the driveshaft every 5k miles or whenever my car feels like a dump truck again, whatever comes first.

I still get that delay in acceleration coming from a stop (california roll). I learned to live with it, but hopefully there'll be a fix for that soon. Unless some of you guys fixed it somehow with a tune.

No - still a problem for me, even after the TSB calibration. Seemingly unchanged.

My guess is at idle - and especially with cold fluid, the transmission takes quite a while to fill the clutch pistons with ATF & actually shift gears. The delay comes from the car cutting throttle until the shift is fully completed. The car seems to wait until the vehicle is fully stopped to shift down to first, and if you try to hit the throttle just at the right time, you'll have to wait for the entire 0.5-1 second shift sequence to be completed before you get your throttle back.

I hope it's solvable with calibration, but we'll have to see.

Is there any way you can tell, without going to the dealership, which software version you have?

As far as I know, no GXs have been built with the new calibration yet. Everybody has to have it applied at the dealer if they want it.

Currently at the dealer getting my brake TSB addressed and my service manager said Lexus knows the original “fix” isn’t fixing things and at time making it worse. They are working on another calibration, he specifically used, to address it and hope for it to be out in JAN.

Obviously take it with a grain of salt- just passing along what I heard.

Interesting. I think we just have to wait and see.

For the brakes, how long did it take them to get the parts?

Just had ours updated with transmission fix during our 15k service. It’s so smooth now, night and day difference for us, finally feels like a luxury SUV again. I was smiling all the way home. A few days later, and it’s still smooth ( still grinning) Even normal driving felt smoother through all the gears.. It was really bad before the fix, I dread coming to a stop and for some reasons, it kept getting worse, more and more clunks past 4-5 months. When we had the vehicle new, I never noticed the transmission clunk, only started to appear after a few k miles. Dealership also cleared/fixed the reverse camera recall .

Interesting because I had mine done yesterday and it’s still very prevalent.

Even tho I’m the OP I just had my first “clunk” at around 10k 😩. Was coasting down from 55 or so at a stop light and felt a huge jolt. No bueno

Sorry that it did not solve yours. If you have not done so, suggest you take a drive with the service technician in the vehicle? Or maybe yours was milder than some of ours and it didn’t really make a difference.. ours was really bad, it’s like sitting in a car with a learner driver, when we slow down, transmission jerks and the car lurches. Ours also had occasion jerk/clunk during normal driving 25-40mph gear changes. Now is all good, fingers crossed.

Mine was similar. I called the dealership back and the MGR advised that Lexus is still working on a long term solution. Some have seen improvements and others have seen it get worse.

I’m also experiencing the harsh downshifting when coming to a stop. Just called to make a 5k service appointment and was told that the tsb doesn’t apply to my 2025 gx. Am I just out of luck?

@Reef Surfer
Interesting. What’s the build date of your GX?
