Are you seriously optimistic on RR reliability vs gx in the long run ? You gotta be kidding me . Haven’t you seen how many thanks me eyed defenders you see in the wild with burnt DRLs ? I have never kept a car more than couple years and sure enough I won’t be keeping the gx past warranty so resale value is the higher priority . But if you think a 6 year old RR is in the same category as a 6 year old Lexus then good luck to you . Btw I’ve had plenty of RR product including the defender and jaguar f type R and no doubt would pick a defender over gx but we are all here because of resale and long term reliability

The Defender is a LR, not an RR, and has had very good reliability, particularly since 2023. The DRL issue was resolved in 2024 with new components. The V8 motor is well proven over about 30 years in different variants. We're in the 7th model year of the new Defender also, and the kinks have been worked out. I had the exact opposite experience with my GX. Many issues, none of which had solutions (they're starting to flow in now).

There have been some utterly awful Range Rover and Land Rover models. And reliability of many of them was crap. The new Defender has shown that LR does know how to make a quality vehicle.

And yes, the GX will have excellent resale - I saw that when I traded mine.

Again I would keep NO car outside of warranty or without purchasing extended warranty but if that’s your plan with a v8 defender I wish you the best of luck

As a matter of fact this is literally the only appeal of Toyota product. Or else why would you pay defender money to buy a Landcruiser with that trashy 4 cylinder engine and subpar interior and cheap exterior

So far, a solid 4-cylinder in the LC, albeit not the smoothness on a V8, or even a V6. but I do worry about the reliability of the hybrid system, with the intermediate clutch, etc. I would be more worried regarding the V6 in the GX, as I understand the massive recall on this engine was just extended to the 2024 GX.

A Defender is not a Range Rover. 🤦‍♂️

Here ya go. I'm leaving now. Bye.

Not an RR - but still a reliability POS

I couldn't help but stop back and rub it in a bit (simply returning the favor) as the recalls and TSBs start stacking up on the GXes, and I'm 5000 miles in on the Defender with not a single issue. Hope y'all get them sorted out. That engine issue does not sound pleasant.
Ha, ha, fair play. Hope you are doing well Rick!

Here ya go Rick - the LRD forum where you can commiserate with the rest of the owners when your vehicle's longest drive is on a tow truck to the dealer for repair #400
