2024 GX Engine Recall? (2 Viewers)

That was one of the most painful videos I’ve ever watched. F.
I’d suggest changing speed to 1.5x to make him talk at a normal speed. Doesn’t explain how two different plants are both leaving the same debris in the engine. Is manufacturing debris left in engine a common manufacturing problem? I’ve not paid attention to recalls on vehicles I don’t own, but can’t recall hearing of the same engine made at different plants having manufacturing debris left in the engine. Maybe. Just hope mine lasts 350K+.
The explanation I got was there was a step missed in the programming of the machine used in both engine plants. This is a painful moment for me. I have 4 family vehicles effected by recalls, and my German car loving wife is having a field day with this. :)

I feel your pain. My wife prefers German made as well. I’m always reminding her there was a reason Ford and Opel were the most common brands on the Autobahn.

I was one of the first to lay down a deposit in the tristate years ago, so one of the first in NJ to get an Overtrail Plus. I owned it for a month where it was in my garage for 3 days all month with the dealership trying to figure out the washboard rough ride. Lexus dealer was great to deal with and bought it back in full and I got the new LandCruiser. So much happier with the LC in every way. 6 months ago a friend spun a bearing in his brand new GX550. I would not trust that engine. I am willing to bet Toyota/Lexus moves away from the TTV6 in the near future.

I love my OT+, I think the ride improved a lot post transmission service bulletin. The suspension took a bit to break in, but I don't recall it being too bouncy though.

The LC 250 is a great vehicle once you get over the 4 cylinder bias. I think it produces enough power for most driving scenarios. I also like the styling of the LC a little better for day-to-day needs. I'm a little concerned about the transmission in that vehicle. The first few shifts of the day are a little rough, but it gets better after 10-15 minutes of driving.

My LX, which has now been recalled, hasn't had any real issues. I love that vehicle for road trips with the kids, but I don't feel comfortable taking it out with my family now.

I'm just hoping this doesn't spread to the entire range, and that Toyota has truly identified and isolated the issue.

My wife’s GX 550 is affected by the recall. I purposely did not buy a tundra and bought a ram power wagon to avoid the recall. Then I bought my wife her GX 550. Whoops.

I just checked and no surprise, mine is in the recall. That's what I get for being the first one in my town to own one. Maybe I'll be patient next time and skip the into year - although I still love the truck. Hopefully they'll give me a 100K warranty on the new engine, sliver linings and all.

It seems strange, mine was built 4/24 but I am not on the recall. I would have figured that the earlier build gx’s would be the ones with the problem. Rather than the later builds.

Perhaps there were some of the problematic engines in inventory that were put into the assembly line for a short while after the production had started. But, just speculation!

The loaner rx I had for a week averaged 19 on the same routes that the gx average 15. Im not sure if more can be done considering the size, weight and shape of this vehicle

For those that change your own oil, how do you prove it was serviced? Save the oil receipt and a selfie with the oil draining?

I went through a Hyundai engine recall for something similar and had to submit every single service record over 8 years of ownership. I was told if I missed an oil change or it was too long in between it would void the recall engine replacement. All oil changes done in a shop, not sure how I could have proved servicing otherwise.
or you can send a sample to Blackstone labs and not only have a record but have a running record of lab tested oil.

I waited 2 years for the LX and it's still in the recall. My Australian cousin just told me this morning that his GX has been recalled too.

Got my OT+ in December 2024 and it's not listed (for now) as a recall; like others, just the backup camera. Sorry to hear possibility t get a new engine... but gotta admire the "lemon into lemonade" attitude by those on the thread.

I also received my OT in 12/24 with a build date of 10/24 and only the backup camera showing as recalled. Does that mean I've dodged the bullet or will more notifications be coming?

I don’t think blackstone oil analysis can see/warn the engine failure caused by the debris… seems like the issue happens fast before a measured amount of increase wear is even noticeable

I have decided to trade in my gx550 to a TX350. I love the GX550 but i dont want to go through the headache in the future.
As you wish of course, but I like the GX550 so much, and trading to avoid a potential hassle may end up with a different one of course. Is your car in the recall list? If it isn't in the date range mentioned now, I doubt it will expand much.
