2024 GX Engine Recall? (14 Viewers)

I'm not going to worry about it until it becomes a problem, if ever, and then it will get fixed. I've spent too much of my life doing the opposite.

Agreed, and some good advice here. But the overriding concern is, now that the cat’s out of the bag, isn’t there is an undetermined diminished value on a resale or trade in?

Likely future dialog at trade in / resale:
Buyer: “Hey, isn’t that the engine with the recall?”
Me: “Yea, but mine wasn’t affected.”
Buyer: “Really? Maybe they haven’t yet determined if you’re on the list.”

So this kind of makes a private sale more difficult, and Lexus would / should be more accommodating in a trade-in situation.

I saw someone on a Facebook group mention this, so I looked into it. Sounds like us that got the first couple allotments might be in for an engine recall.
I got mine in July 2024 and I did not get the engine recall notice.

Does anyone have a good guess on how a failure should happen? Would it be gradual or sudden? I traded my 4runner for the GX OT so I could continue exploring Baja as well as other destinations. My question is, how worried should I be taking trips to Baja?

That is a hard one to answer because it is related to debris getting trapped between the crankshaft and the bearing. Overheating is what is causes the bearing to seize and spin.

My build date is 03/24 and purchased 6/12/24. I confirmed my vehicle is on engine recall list.
I have 32k miles on it now, of which about 3k miles have been overlanding/off pavement in CO, UT, ID, OR. Engine oil was changed at 900 miles and at 5k intervals thereafter.
No problems at all with it except the brake squeal and hood flutter issues.
I’m not worrying about the engine…if it dies so be it.

My OT+ is a Nov 24 build. It's gotten smoother with more miles and I'm at 13k right now. I knew what I was getting into when I bought it and still love it. Keeping mine for the long run, engine recall or not although obviously I hope mine is not on the list.

Here's the most accurate information I have found about this issue, including the VIN's currently affected:

And what's concerning is this caveat to the data:
Note: Although the involved vehicles are within the above VIN ranges, not all vehicles in these VIN ranges were sold in the Australian market.

So check your US vehicle VIN! Spoke with my So Cal Dealer yesterday and he said they were not aware of the GX recall yet.

My question is, can i drive this GX without replacing the engine if i dont have any issues right now. How long can I wait it out before getting the engine replacement? For example, can I drive the GX until it gives me a problem in the future and decide to swap out the engine under the recall? or Can I drive till 250k without any problems and decide to swap out the engine?

Or Can Lexus deny my factory warranty on the engine since Im refusing to replace the engine under the safety recall?
My understanding is that the recall attaches to the vehicle until the issue is addressed. So it may be one, two or five years before the dealer contact you for the engine replacement (or similar). I guess you have some time before it will eventually happen and you always have the right to wait a bit longer if you want to. Since dealer will have to contact ahead about the potential work.

My understanding is that the state will not renew your tags with a safety recall until it gets addressed.

Well, I don't have to worry about it now, I got rid of my GX yesterday.

I am now on the engine recall list!
How the heck did that happen!? Are the running live updates and adding more vehicles?

I got mine in 07/24 with a 04/24 build - my batch of vehicles were stuck at the west coast port (Oregon or Washington) for several weeks at that time... Only have the camera recall for now. Did have the hood flutter which was fixed (first repair at my dealer) but they couldn't recreate the brakes (was inconsistent and now seems to be gone) and of course the recent transmission update...

Frankly, i will continue enjoying this truck and deal with the issues as they come... (definitely not getting rid of it).

What people forget to understand is how much of a difference these GXs went from the previous models.
There would almost definitely be some sort of issues and they are still in crazy demand.
All of the TSBs we had are not insanely dramatic and all got fixed.
The camera recall is affecting most Toyota/Lexus and Subaru vehicles which I am glad they are fixing before any serious issue (Haven't heard of anything).

Let's keep our fingers crossed that there will be a permanent solution so we can go on and enjoy these beautiful trucks!

I'm an 03/24 build and I purchase on June 7, 2024.

When I ran my vin on the recall checklist last week, the engine issue didn't appear - only the rear camera picture freezing up was on the recall list. Now both the engine and rear camera are on there.

I think that eventually most of us will be on the list. Mine has a 10/24 build so I won't be surprised if I get on the list eventually. If I get a new engine somewhere down the line it will work out great since I'm planning to drive the truck to the ground anyway.

The brakes issue worked out since I got new parts at 10K. I'm thinking the same thing will work out if I land on the engine recall list.

Haha, I am sure you will also enjoy the ride of the TX, BTW, check the amplifier if your TX has the ML sound system.
