2024 GX Engine Recall? (4 Viewers)

Based on what I’m seeing here, I keep checking my app obsessively to determine if I’m affected by the engine recall. Like it can show up any minute. lol.
I've also been guilty of this over the past few days... My production date is within the official range therefore I probably wouldn't believe if nothing comes up (Wearing my tinfoil hat)!

Update on my conversation with my dealer and Lexus regarding my engine recall. As no surprise, Lexus referred me to the dealership since they did not have a "plan" to share, granted it was the day after the public announcement, and the notice I received on my app. When I arrived at the dealership, they stated that they had received instructions to evaluate the GX, and if it exhibits symptoms, they would provide a loaner vehicle until the official engine replacement is completed. If the test shows no symptoms, they will return the car to me, and it will be safe to drive. However, they will still replace the engine once a formal plan is released. The dealer said they expect to have the results back tomorrow... this will be good piece of mind if I need to drive the GX for a few more months which includes trips to and from Tahoe every weekend with the family.

I have 17k miles on mine. I would have to think if there was an issue with mine, it would have caused some symptoms by now. It doesn't show to be on the list, but I took delivery in August '24.

Toyota needs to be more transparent on this recall. Build dates before and after my build date have been recalled, which makes me wonder when will mine be recalled and is there any danger in driving the vehicle and taking long trips in it?? I was told initially that only builds between May and June were affected by Lexus Customer Service but that's not the case. There all over the map.
This makes no sense to me

That's what I thought too (May & June build dates) but here I am with a March 2024 build date and I've received the recall. Probably safe to assume that everyone is correct and it will end up being all of them up to a certain date when they fixed the autobot cleaning program.

I think everyone saying it's going to be a full recall is correct as well. I mean how can they isolate the problem to a certain time? I would just like to get it over with.

As at least one other person has suggested (don’t recall who..), I also believe it’s an inventory tracking issue causing the somewhat random and nonsensical recall we are all seeing from the outside. Screw ups in their tracking system.

They produce the engines. They ‘go on the shelf’, sit for varying amounts of time. They get pulled at various times for multiple models. So our vehicle final production dates we see on the door jamb stickers don’t consistently correlate chronologically to the production and assembly date of the particular engine used in any given car.

There is still a lot of post-COVID supply chain chaos out there. Which is contributing to both inventory and assembly challenges.

So they have been pulling new inventory engines for Tundra, Lexus models, etc for assembly over the last 2 yrs or so, as they decided they needed them, and as their multiple other supply chains could provide the 100’s of other parts needed for a given Toyota or Lexus model.. And now they’ve realized - or are now beginning to indirectly, publicly acknowledge - they have imperfect data on the crated, ‘still on the shelf’ engines.

Not sure where the information about May or June builds came in (would have likely been from a misinformed representative?). Everything that has been shown thus far by people with inside info has said early build GXs only (through “early April 2024”).

Now the official report is available via NHTSA, and it shows the recall covers GX builds through 4/10/2024. So if you say yours was built 4/18/2024, then that is why yours isn’t a part of this recall. Since the previous Tundra/LX recall implied the issue was fixed before GX main production began, and now has been extended to include this range (and even re-recall cars thought to be fixed) there’s no guarantee yours will never be recalled. It just isn’t a part of this one.
