Aftermarket Tires steering wheel shake vs vibration

That's what I was saying. Maybe the OEM tires are unusually soft, so swapping to a "normal" AT3 seems harsh in comparison?
I get what you’re saying. I drove a lifted tundra before this and besides the hum of the ATs, it drove smooth.

I would expect some additional noise to be transferred into the cabin with a more traditional AT but the shaking of the vehicle is not normal.

After trying pretty much everything possible, I decided to put my stock wheels and tires back on. The ride on the highway improved significantly, and the vibration that was entering the cabin was practically gone.

I had them road force balance the wheels and tires three times at DT. We've swapped to a new set of tires (Toyo to Falken), swapped out different lug nuts, and purchased some hub-centric rings to see if they would fix it. The only other thing I could think of is going with a different set of wheels entirely - maybe trying methods instead.

Having read the entire vibration thread, perhaps the wider tires exacerbated the vibration of the OT+, as some people are reporting that it has cabin vibration that feels like you're riding on a washboard road. At this point, I am a bit worn out from troubleshooting and don't want to waste my time. Bummer, as the look was exactly what I was going for. Now I am a bit weary of even replacing the current stockers with something like a 275/70/18 when they wear out, as the P-rate tire may hide a lot of the issues some are reporting - I guess that's to be seen.

Hopefully, DT doesn't give me too much grief but they have been good to work with thus far.

You didn't mention alignment. Did you decide to skip that?

Sorry things didn't work out with the wheels and tires. Hope you are happy with your truck again.

All terrain tires are different …. I’ve never had any that were vibration free …. It’s a give and take with the tires as they have high and low spots

Be that as it may, these wheels and tires made me miss my lifted Tundra with ATs. Don’t think I’ve ever had the entire interior of the vehicle shake at 70mph.

Good call out. I did get an alignment as well and it was within spec. They made a very small adjustment but nothing that changed the ride behavior.

Paying for an alignment which will simply use the stock geometry specs seems a waste of money to me, unless you've changed something in the suspension. A/T tires or any meaty tires might "settle in" after a bit of driving warranting a rebalance. That's probably all I'd do.

Yeah, it was a hail mary to at least check off the last thing it could be. There are some instances when an aligment issue can cause cabin vibrations at high speed, which is what I am currently seeing. I am sure that DT won't make it easy to just get a refund so I wanted to show that I have tried everything I could on my side to make the set up work.

Welp. After all the time and effort spent, I went back today and had them put on my OEM wheels along with a 275/70/18 Toyo AT3. All of the vibration at 70mph, and additional steering wheel buzzing is gone. Perhaps there was a defect with the Motegi, or my vehicle didn't like the lug-centric setup, but it's back to smooth driving.

Are Volks hub-centric? Just kidding...maybe.
