GX550 Real World MPG (3 Viewers)

Just did a long road trip with mostly interstate but a mix of mountain city driving as well. 1500 miles or so at 18.2 mpg.

2024 Luxury +

I'm getting 19+ mpg more consistently. Often 20-20.7 MPG.

However - it depends a lot of how you drive (aggressive / braking / etc.) and this is also without doing Eco mode. Maybe this is an obvious caveat.

My suspicion is that if (1) you put it in Eco mode and (2) drove modestly with (3) more highway, and (4) little traffic, then you could get 20mpg fairly consistently.

GX 550; 2025.

footnote:
in Comfort mode it's awesome on hwy and hwy ramps, virtually no / no body roll as you get with sport and sport+. I also have no hood flutter and brakes are fine with only normal squeaks when there's been rain/moisture and haven't driven since rain. LOVE this truck.

in case some of you are hesitant to run the tank to "0" miles, I have run the last 3 full tanks down to zero miles showing. When I filled up and the auto pump stops I manually top off an average of 1.5 gallons more, and I'm adding ~19.2 gallons after it goes to "0". Like others have posted, it's safe to assume there are about 2 gallons remaining when you hit zero miles. Fuel Low and Refuel are what it shows on Cluster, but no audible.

Ok so I still drive like I have my BMW X5 and milage is pretty pathetic at about 12.5. Highway speeds when I'm on them is between 70-80 and then averages about 17.5. Here is the good news. In Sports plus setting if there is a 0-60 difference between my old BMW and my GX I sure can't tell. Once broken in, this engine is pretty damn quick especially considering it has the aerodynamics of squared off brick! I'd say 0-60 below 6 without braking is about right so call it 0-60 in 5.8-5.9.

We recently did a 2400 mile road trip in our new 2025 overtrail, I busted most speed limits 10 to 15 mph when on open hwy. The most common mileage calculated during fill ups was 16.5 mpg. There was one stretch I was able to push 95 to 100 for over an hour, that tank yielded 15.5 MPG, the best fuel economy I calculated throughout the trip was 18.7 MPG.
I also noticed when I ran the tank down to zero miles I would only add 18 gallons of fuel, giving me the assumption I had 3 gallons in reserve each time. When we got back home I went ahead and ran it down to 30 miles past zero range and put in 20 gallons, indicating there was one gallon still remaining in the tank. Which would make sense considering it was mostly city driving and I tend to get about 15.5- 16 mpg driving locally.
Oh, and strictly regular unleaded throughout the whole time.

I just completed a 800 mile trip. Got 20.7 mpg driving up and down the Cascades at 70 mph. That was with my calculations. When I filled up, it showed 331 miles to go on the tank. I'm good with that.
That's similar to what we're consistently getting, 20.6 to 21.2 on our P+. Just getting ready to roll over 10k shortly.

Was getting around 17 combined on mostly local driving, then less than 15 after upgraded wheels and tires 275/60/20 Wildpeak AT4. and changed the tires to Cooper discoverer Road and Trail AT now and getting around 16 mpg.

I have noticed that when running down to zero, I am typically putting in 17.5-18 gallons. Never had a car that gave THAT conservative of "empty". Usual for BMW/etc. is about 2 gallons left. 3-4 gallons left while on empty seems a bit extreme to me, and also gives the impression that the tank is much smaller than it actually is. A bit odd.

Not so worried about fuel mileage, didn’t buy our ‘25 Overtrail for that (Caviar w/Black int, fall in love every time I walk out and see her, the Black Pearl. Thank you, Capt. Jack Sparrow). My 76 yr old problem is figuring out an easy way to get in to her, about 3-4” too high for the wife and I to comfortably enter/ exit numerous times a day. Decided we don’t need an Overtrail, and would love to trade down to a Premium Plus, same colors, similar miles, currently at less than 3500. Any takers, must have a trade or #1 in line somewhere. Serious inquiries only, please. We are located in Mooresville, NC. Color open to discussion, Incognito or Nebulia grey okay. T I A, Black Pearl’s daddy, Bill

That is awesome.

I recently did a ~300 mile round trip, through a part of the Appalachians with posted 6 grade interstate and, you know at the bottom of the hill there just has to be a 30-40 degree turn to one side, albeit rounded. so the speeds varied. but the final overall MPG was about 20.5 approx. Comfort mode, absolutely. Speeds were not 'aggressive' and especially going down hill. It also seems like 'sport' and 'sport plus' are best for overtrail-like conditions.

Aside from the above, I'm increasingly getting near 20 MPG in outer-suburban, somewhat hilly terrain with some hwy driving. The constant is "Comfort" mode and engine braking. This is not a BMW or Jaguar. You have to love it.

And finally I will say, this Overtrail '25 grows on you real fast. There are a lot of little things and a lot hard to describe.

I just love it.

I gotta say - the luxury plus electric running boards are considerably lower to the ground than even the Premiums. Makes getting in and out a breeze for my 5 foot nothing partner.

Lux+ stock wheels & tires breaking 300 in eco every tank, ~40 miles/day 24 highway w/a mtn pass & 16 flat city… going to see if I can crack 300 in comfort mode without a lead foot. Wonder if the LRA tanks muck with warranty 🤔

I don't pay much attention to the computer mpg or check it myself. It just doesn't matter to me. When it gets low, I fill it up. The computer always says it's in the 320's range. Almost exactly what my Bronco is, so I'm used to it.

Stock 26' P+ first tank, miles remaining said 26 and I got 302 miles before fill up. Avg mpg was 18.3. I'm very much ok with this, one 100sm trip each way to LAX and some local driving mostly all in ECO mode. Stoked!!!
Do you know if mpg displayed on the driver display is per trip or for the lifetime of the truck? I think its lifetime because after every “trip” I get a mpg/time report that differs from whats displayed, wonder if I can display live trip mpg

Live shows up in the central display under one of the menus if you want to watch it. I think there might be a dashboard widget if you scroll through them but it’s not super useful, like a relative mpg bar.

The range math can be reset on there it’s not dreadfully useful.

I think the poster above is on the money that you just need to fill it up frequently and not worry about it too much.

The car isn’t good on gas nor does it get a ton of range. It is what it is. There isn’t really any fixing it, it’s about as bad as as any other half ton truck on the market exacerbated by the full time 4WD.
