Recently got me a new 25 550, and have been searching for aftermarket wheels, and have become a bit confused. I see a lot of people posting wheels that have an aggressive stance with the wheels sitting slightly outside the wheel well and plain the offset is +18 or +20…..but that should make the wheels be more tucked into the vehicle. Went to a shop and asked for +20 wheels and the guy was like that would sit way inside your wheel well, you either want 0 offset to sit flusher with the body or minus (-) offset to have more aggressive stance. So what is the correct answer here? Are people confused with their offset numbers or is this shop full of crap?

This thread will give you all the information you need:

Positive offset sits closer to the body, your shop is wrong. As you get closer to 0 and then past 0 with a negative offset, the wheel sits further away from the body. Stock GX wheel offset is +50 regardless of trim, I believe.

the shop sucks.....the stock rims have a factory offset of +50. The closer to zero/negative the further out from the center of the car (More poke). +35 on an 8.5" wheel is a sweet spot when going with larger tires.

Take note that wheel width should also be considered with offset. +20 offset for an 8" wide wheel will fit differently than a 9.5" wheel at +20

I want to maintain the stock tires and just get a better set of 18” wheels. I think the thickness of the wheel is what is confusing me then. I want a set of 18s that sit very slightly outside the body like maybe an inch. Something like this pic. In the picture those are 22s, but I’m just talking about the stance, not size of the actual wheel.

Here is an example of what I’m talking about. This is on another forum, but they says 20x9.5 +20 offset, and that stance is perfect to me, but I thought positive odder would sit closer to the body. Clearly I’m an idiot missing something here

Yes, +20 offset is less than +35 or +50. So +20 will stick out farther than +35 or +50. How far? The number indicates millimeters, so going from stock (+50) to +20 means you lose 30mm or a bit over an inch (25.4mm).

Oh boy …. First and foremost do not listen to that shop …..second what fitment do you want meaning where you want the wheels to sit … to me .+20 with a 275/70R18 is perfect … but thats just me …… people will say lift and you can clear a 285 but I think that’s BS…. Lift doesn’t help articulation. It just helps you ride around the mall but when the suspension moves past that daily driving movement point per day you will rub and it will not be pleasant
