VF Tuner ECU/TCU Tuning for the GX550

i had to sell my GX550 :( , im selling my JB4 for Lexus LX 600 & GX 550 3.5L Twin Turbo if anyone interested DM me.

Still waiting for the updated fw that fixes the transmission issue. I've emailed support several times. Arrrg.

Which transmission issue? have you received our latest version tunes we released not long ago?
Can you make sure you are sending to Support@ovtune.zendesk.com ?
@VF Tuner Is there an ETA or an interim/temporary solution for your customers that have had a pending order for months? I get it that there have been supply issues, but between China and US harness manufacturers, I can't believe there's no one that can reverse engineer a connection cable.

We are reversing the EWD for the GX550 to find another spot to tap into.
Shockingly these end connectors cannot be found anywhere to buy online in bulk... we can order a max of 1 at a time....

Had a bit of an issue yesterday, not sure if it's tune related. I was getting on the freeway and, due to circumstances, had to floor it from about 55 to 85, at which point I got a flashing check engine light (P0306 - cyl #6 misfire), and drove on 5 cylinders until I could stop & restart the car. Everything seems fine now, but I haven't tried to replicate that scenario. Any insight @VF Tuner ?

Are you on the newest tune? Released a month or so ago.

Are you in a recall impacted 2024?

Any update with the Australian tuner connection?
we have emailed that shop and have not heard back. so from this point we are making direct connectors for the ECU for these vehicles.

Regarding regular CAN connects. We have 50 connectors on the way! finally.

Finally, since you guys have been so so patient with us we truly sincerely appreciate that, and because of that, any GX550 owner who wants one of our upgraded turbo pairs can get them for an extra discount off. I hope this is something you guys can see as a genuine thank you all for being so patient through this massive setback of finding more of these connectors.

What does that "extra discount" look like?

Yes, please elaborate on the extra discount. Also, do we have any before/after dyno charts yet for these? Are we losing power down low from increased turbo lag? I'd have to assume we'd be taking a MPG hit, any idea yet how much?

Is the only way to make more power in these at this point is to swap turbos? Given where they're buried, seems like a lot of work.

if you are interested in the additional discount, please send us a message / email.
If we post it publicly then everyone else will demand they receive that same discount even though they were not waiting like GX folks.
I posted a dyno sheet / dyno results, and we have another I'll find, it is on our facebook.

You do not lose any power down low at all. They spool just like stock.
The truck that we posted the numbers did nearly 600whp.

Guys, gals.
I know we just posted a big update to our tunes, but we have another update coming.
totally optional (of course) if you like the current update. (no eta, just announcing)

This will incorporate our completely redesigned transmission control. SHIFT3D
We worked on this code architecture on the 3.5L Tacoma (and all toyota transmission control) for over 5 years to bring this forward.
This is not just a "tune."
it is a completely new, built from the ground up, core logic on how the transmission is controlled.

The way toyota controls their tranmissions shifts leaves a LOT to be desired, and if you look at toyotas history, they are riddled with constant "tsbs" and updates trying to improve their shifting maps.

We scrapped it. Entirely.
If you'd like, you can read about it here linked below.

Our strategy uses completely custom logic, with mapped out 3D tables for every gear.
This ensures RPM is a factor for deciding shifting, along with load and torque. (OEM Toyota strategy does not care what the engine rpm is for majority of shifts, and this is a main reason shifting is can be clunky)

Our code:
Core built 3D surface tables that allows our shift authority to predict optimal shifting based on RPM / Load / Boost / Torque
Complete ANTI LUG protection, designed so that up/down shifts will not lug the RPM under a preset point (1200 / 1400 rpm)
Eliminates toyotas various shift tables / multi shift sequences and per gear torque translation tables that makes the transmission so unpredictable.
Gives complete predictability to shifts
Incorporates MULTIPLE safety parameters including axle speed, engine speed, vehicle speed, vehicle load, engine lugging prediction, and so much more (toyota OEM does not do this)

This is the result of more than 5 years engineering work, and we are super excited to bring it to the GX550 crowd.

You are like a little devil on our shoulders......600 WHP just by swapping out turbos would be intoxicating.

Seriously, I REALLY want that power. I've always been a sporty car guy, but need the utility of the GX and just don't have room for a 2nd vehicle. I'm already very pleased with the GX coming from a 4Runner, but this would bridge the gap very nicely and make it super fun to drive. I just want to know if it'll absolutely destroy the already bad MPG or if it'd be a modest hit and how bad is the install in terms of price?

with our tunes you are likely to see a good bump in mpg. Almost everyone is reporting better mpg, and the bigger turbos are actually a bit more efficient than the stock ones, so that is also going to help with MPG.

These turbos are not just some "bolt-on" bigger turbos. They are built in toyotas factory directly, consulting with the engineers who designed this engine.
The design is made to maximize power on stock engine without any additional risk and without increasing turbo lag.

Install cost for us (at a toyota dealer) was about $5k, but it included other things, not just turbo swapping.
I'd budget $3500-4500 for install cost.
