2024 GX Engine Recall? (3 Viewers)

All USA 550’s are under factory warranty until 2028 (for the 2024s). If they don’t have it figured out and Toyota/Lexus flake and decide to be a lousy engineering/car company with half-witted fixes and poor support I’ll dump it and them as a company and let capitalism work.

If future me still wants to keep my 2024 GX and believes risk is excessive and want to manage that risk I’ll buy the Lexus extended warranty in 2028 before my factory warranty expires.

If future me wants another GX with updated features and they have fixed it at the factory I’ll swap out for a new build one in 2028.

If future me wants something else I’ll roll the dice and take delivery of the Scout Traveller I have a refundable deposit on.

Bottom line, Future me problem. Now, I’m going back to getting my GX ready for a 2K road trip this week.

Couldn’t have said it better myself.

For the users who are reporting they have had their engines replaced... did the engine die or squeal or did they just call you in for a replacement prior to catastrophic failure?

I don’t think there has been a member on this forum with an actual failed engine yet. The replacements were preventative. Unless I missed someone.

Now on Facebook, there are about 10 failed GXs a day.

I saw one person claim their engine was replaced and he provided no other evidence or proof other than stating it happened...

anyone thinking about putting a higher viscosity oil to replace the 0w-20?

Until Lexus recommends it, no. I feel like if I have an engine issue using oil that meets their recommendations / requirements there's not going to be any problem obtaining warty work. However, I'm concerned that the moment you start going outside manufacturer recommendations and requirements it gives them a reason to deny the claim. Ultimately, they may concede, but I'm not going to try to outsmart Lexus / Toyotas engineers when it comes to this stuff.

I’ve been sorely tempted too, to get some extra protection for hot weather towing..

But I don’t have complete confidence at this point about how Lexus is handling all of this, and, therefore agree with StevePerry.
If I actually KNEW my GX wasn’t ever going to be recalled - as in a letter from Lexus for my VIN - for these still-not-fully-explained failures, recalls.. then I would change.
But not now.

And I’ve been ‘secretly’ hoping that someone at USDOT (🧐) will eventually put pressure on Toyota/Lexus to significantly extend our powertrain warranties for all these various models. 🤷‍♂️

Agree. Car Care Nut said something similar recently. Use only oil recommended by dealer, coz if you use heavier oil or non-recommended oil, Lexus may deny your warranty claim.

I purchased my 24 gxOT + in April of 24 and I received a recall letter about 6 weeks ago from Lexus. I quote-"Lexus is currently developing a remedy". "We will notify you again when the remedy is available". I was recently contacted by the local Lexus dealer and I traded it in for another 26 GX OT +. An expensive way to not have to deal with the uncertainty of a possible defective engine even though it was still under warranty. I travel out of town frequently and did not want to deal with this possible prob;em.

Was trade in value fair?

Be lucky you found a ‘26 that quickly

I saw the engine recall on my app a month ago. I kept driving it since I commute out of town for work. A week and a half ago I was driving to work on the highway and I get a warning on my steering column screen to pull over the engine was about to turn off. Mind you I am traveling at 80+ MPH. I saw the speed slow down drastically and was able to pull over before the engine locked up. This could have been so much worse than me being stranded on the side of the road with 18 wheelers flying past me for an hour. My car has 46K miles on it now. Lexus tow truck took it to the dealer. They had it for a couple days and then let me know my car is one that the engine needs to be replaced on. I have not been given any time frame as to when I will get my car back. I do have a loaner from the dealership currently.

Do you remember the build date for your vehicle?
