VF Tuner ECU/TCU Tuning for the GX550

Sounds good! Order placed. Will be interesting to see the difference between this and the JB4 piggyback I've been running for 10k plus miles.

When the car goes in for service, does the tune need to be removed prior?
The tune does not need to be removed.

Does the calibration do anything for the sluggish throttle pedal? I'm running a Pedal commander to get rid of the slop, but if your calibration accounts for that, I'll be able to remove all piggybacks.

Thanks again.

We recalibrate the requested torque, which in turn changes requested throttle

You will see a big difference in response at all rpm.
I would recommend removing the throttle controller

Does the CAN cable connect to the laptop via USB type A or C? Trying to determine what kind of inexpensive laptop I need to pick up. Not sure if you guys have people doing the flash via Macbooks using Vmware.

Depending on how old your mac is, you might not be able to do vmware/parallels, and I'm not sure if I'd go down the route of trying to run x86 windows on arm mac processors for such a sensitive software

USB A, but usb-c to usb-a convertor/hub should be fine

I used an older Dell rugged tablet and things went well

Sorry about that, I updated the site. We have 50x+ CAN connect components in stock. It would ship with your order.

Note, we won't be able to ship pending orders until thursday because we are completely snowed in.. (in May!)...

@VF Tuner What's the typical ship time after an order is placed? I put one in early yesterday morning. 🙏

See their post from yesterday

Can diagnostic trouble codes be cleared via the OBD2 port of does it have to be done via CAN? I'd think OBD2 but wasn't sure which port should be used with the VF Tuner software.

Like Bill, when I went to Read the Ecu the system crashed. THe car still worked but I had to go back in and clear codes. Clearing codes is now slightly different that what Bill did, per VF

Please run the software, go to Diagnostics > Toyota diagnostics tool >
and while connected to the OBDII press Reset on all modules / Reset DTC buttons (vehicle should be in Ignition On mode, engine NOT idling/running)

After clearing the codes, I tried again to read the ecu and had the same thing happen. I emailed them and went to bed, plan on attacking it again today once I hear from them if I am doing somethign wrong, or if the "read ECU" is even needed.

Rereading everything this morning, even though my original instructions say to read and save the ecu and the person I spoke with on the phone said I should, it looks like the guide on their site now says it isn't necessary.

There is NO NEED to READ the ECU unless we advise that you do.

If we don't have to do the additional step of reading the ECU, that would be great. Given that there are currently only a couple versions of it, I'm wondering if @VF Tuner can simply email us a stock calibration of simply add it to the folder with other calibrations when the VT Tuner software is installed.

I started by plugging into the OBDII port to find the vin number etc. Took that and sent it to them. They then sent me the tunes and more directions. Then I plugged in the CAN connect cable and I have been trying to read and save the original ECU program through the Can Cable, not the OBDII port. Are we supposed to be doing the read save through the obdII port??

No, the read needs to be through the CAN connect. When I ran into the read problem, I saw that one of the wires of the CAN connect had broken off. Not sure if you are running into the same issue.

Those wires go through a lot trying to get them installed. lol

The one I have is completely wrapped with tape, so you can't see the wires. I wouldn't know if they are damaged or not unless I pulled it apart, which would be a big pain in the ass. I probably would do it if Bill hadn't had the exact same can't read thing when he did it.
