I plan on using the same schedule when we take delivery of my wife's 2026 GX 550. I have an F-150 running a 3.5 Eco boost that gets the 5,000 mile service interval. They are great engines, just a bit high strung, and require some extra attention.I paid my dealer to do oil changes at 1000 miles and at 5000 miles and will do them every 5000 miles from this point forward. The dealer will do my next oil change at 10,000 miles at no additional charge per the maintenance agreement.
I just choose to take this more conservative approach to oil change intervals as a relatively inexpensive insurance policy against premature engine wear.
Any new news on whether they changed out any internal parts for later gx engine builds?
Exactly. Oil and filter are cheap, DIY oil changes are therapeutic, and peace of mind is priceless. For me, I say NEVER go over 5,000 miles on any oil change. They give you a 60,000 mile powertrain warranty. The Feds want fewer oil changes to fight global warming, etc. They asked the engineers "if we change the oil every 10,000 miles, will this engine last through the standard powertrain warranty?" and the engineers all said "Sure, no problem" so they went with that... Ask those same engineers if the engine will last 100,000 or 150,000 miles with 10,000 mile oil changes and they will say "Nope"... It's up to you, but if you plan to keep this as a forever vehicle, 5,000 is a small price to pay for longevity...
Good to know. I have ramps, jack/jack stands, oil catch can (mainly for my tractor) but its a PITA for me to get it all out and set up and then usually you need to remove a skid plate and undershielding to get to the drain or filter. My Infiniti sedan requires them to be removed. If its that simple and you can slide underneath, than I might look into doing it myself.I promise the oil change is like 5x easier than any brake job I've ever done. You don't even have to jack up the GX - it's one (17mm I think?) drain bolt and the oil filter, which requires a $5 socket from your local parts store.
Just don't overtighten the drain bolt - one good snug is fine.
Also, $115 is cheap for a Lexus Dealer oil change! I think my local dealer charges around $200.
I keep procrastinating buying a hose. I just held a shop towel underneath the drain, lol. Probably should go measure it & buy one.I was able to change out my oil by not having to jack up the car. I drove it up on 2x4 that I had in the garage, and it gave me enough clearance to reach the last 2 10mm bolts for the skid plate. The plate itself isn't that heavy.
I would recommend getting a drain hose for right under the filter. I had some oil leak out after unscrewing the filter.
I think a 5/8 ID ought to do it.I keep procrastinating buying a hose. I just held a shop towel underneath the drain, lol. Probably should go measure it & buy one.
Don't forget that the "Tech" doing Oil Changes at the Lexus dealer is the absolute lowest dollar per hour person they have on staff (most likely anyway)...
Okay, that's pretty funny actually witty.I just go by the OEM recommendation, never let me down. It's not 1980 with Dad washing the car with Dawn who thought it was the best car soap! Lol.
